The film that portrays the story of a group of teenagers living in Bogota’s streets received important awards in the last edition of the prestigious German festival: the Crystal Bear for the Best Film in the Generation 14plus category and a Teddy Award.
Alis, directed by Clare Weiskopf and Nicolas van Hemelryck, narrates the story of eight teenagers living in the streets of Colombia’s capital. Through creative work, they give life to a fictional classmate; her portrait will reflect life, trauma, and the struggle of each teenager behind her construction. «They are incredible young women, with many qualities, a lot of potentials, and who come from tough worlds. There are many Alis not only in Colombia but throughout the world,» assures Weiskopf, director of the film.
The documentary was part of the 72nd edition of The Berlin International Film Festival, popularly known as Berlinale. The film was not only acclaimed at the event, but also received two important awards: the Crystal Bear for the Best Film in the Generation 14plus category, a section dedicated to young cinema, and a Teddy Award for the Best LGTB+ Documentary, prize also given in 2009 to Lemebel, the documentary directed by Joana Reposi and produced by Paula Saenz-Laguna.
Alis is a coproduction between Chile, Colombia, and Romania, produced by Nicolas Van Hemelryck, Clare Weiskopf, Lise Lense, Radu Stancu, and the Chilean producer Alexandra Galvis. «A moving film which, utilizing the simplest of means, creates an unbelievable closeness and intimacy,» according to the jury of the category for the Crystal Bear.
