Synopsis

For years, guided by intuition and by the need to give voice to María Lionza, the Goddess of Venezuela, I began to document the debacle of her iconic statue. The incipient cracks that afflicted her, her rupture, her double becoming.
On the one hand, the Broken Goddess was sheltered at the Central University of Venezuela. On the other, the Mayor's Office of Caracas installed a replica in the same place that the original piece was.
After comings and goings, I concluded that telling her story was the excuse to understand my own wound, the rupture that inhabiting the non-place of a migrant life implies.
María Lionza gave me the strength to tell this story that is not only mine, it is also the story of my country and of every Venezuelan who feels divided, in the middle of a war that never belonged to her.

  Chilean-Venezuelan filmmaker with a career in fiction short films, documentaries and documentaries for TV.
  Herfirst fiction short film “Azul Naranja” (1996) was selected at the Huesca International Film Festival, the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival and the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival, among others. Her second short film “Blanco Antifaz” (2001), participated in the Sundance Film Festival competition and at the Festival des films du Monde in 2002. With her most recent work released “Espacio Moneda” (2013), she won the Best Short Film award documentary at the Mecal Short Film Festival in Santiago and participated in the Juan Downey contest of the Media Arts Biennial.
  She recently concluded «The Broken Goddess.» For 2 years she has been working on the documentary «El último viaje», a Chile-Venezuela co-production, which is in development stage.

  Producer

  Producer and Director. General Producer in Venezuela and President of the Venezuelan Co-Producing Company.
  She graduated in Biology from the Central University of Venezuela in 1990. She is the Director of the Documentary Film Festival, Caracas Doc since 2011. She has actively participated in film policies aimed at animated films in Venezuela. Co-founder of the Collage Animado collective. She directs the Production Company Creaciones Animadas.
