Paula Ossandón, a board member of the Chilean Corporation of Documentaries CCDoc and Director of Chiledoc, the Chilean documentary sector brand, has been invited to join the board of the International Documentary Association IDA, a non-profit organization that supports documentary filmmakers and advocates for a thriving and inclusive documentary culture.
«I am very grateful for this invitation, which is the result of a constant and sustained team effort to position Chilean documentaries on the global stage,» said Paula Ossandón.
The IDA supports the work of documentary filmmakers and advocates for a thriving and inclusive documentary culture. For 40 years, it has championed non-fiction cinema and filmmakers through its programs, offering production and development grants directly to filmmakers and helping them raise funds for their projects through its Fiscal Sponsorship Program.
As part of its annual programming, the IDA organizes talks with experienced filmmakers and industry leaders, as well as educational seminars for documentary filmmakers of all experience levels to help them grow professionally. They also produce the annual IDA Awards, which celebrate the best non-fiction projects of the year, and the IDA Documentary Screening Series, which brings films and their creators closer to industry insiders. Additionally, the IDA hosts the biennial conference Getting Real, the only event of its kind in North America, among many other initiatives.
The U.S. media outlet Deadline highlighted this news, stating that «three prominent members of the film community are joining the board of directors of the International Documentary Association.»
In addition to Ossandón, the new members invited to join are Bob Berney, CEO of Picturehouse, a marketing and distribution company founded in 2005, and Oscar-nominated producer Toni Kamau, founder of Kenya-based production company We Are Not the Machine.
They join an IDA board led by Co-Presidents Ina Fichman and Michael A. Turner, Treasurer Chris Albert, Secretary Maria Agui Carter, and members Orwa Nyrabia, Alfred Clinton Perry, Amir Shahkhalili, Chris Pérez, Grace Lee, and Marcia Smith.
