– The Other One is the national documentary that had its world premiere and also won the International Competition Burning Lights at Visions du Réel.
– Notas para una película is the latest project by Ignacio Agüero that won the Asterisk* Marketing Award in the Docs in Progress section of the festival.
On May 2, the latest version of the renowned Nyon Visions du Réel International Film Festival, was concluded, which was held online due to the global pandemic context. For the occasion, two national documentaries shone among the participants as they took the awards in their respective categories.
The Other One, directed by Francisco Bermejo and produced by Francisco Hervé, had its international premiere at Visions du Réel on April 25, an event that allowed it to be screened before thousands of spectators around the world. This, along with the award, marks a precedent that undoubtedly benefits both the project and the national documentary sector as a whole because it highlights the work and quality of national productions.
This, acknowledged by its director Francisco Bermejo, who explains the importance of constantly participating in this type of activities that boost the work developed by the sector: «It is very important to participate in international events because it enriches the future of the projects. With The Other One we have been attending to these activities more than four years, when it was in full production stage. Through Chiledoc we were able to go out into the world in search of financing and experience. Today, the award translates into many opportunities such as participation in other international festivals, but also opens the interest in knowing more about the film and Chile. It is a showcase for the national documentary, which in turn begins to acquire more strength, to be more diverse and above all more professional.»

The Other One portrays the story of Oscar, a man who has been living for 40 years under a cliff, on the shores of the sea, completely isolated to enjoy his freedom. When he is hungry he goes for a dive or hunts and his entertainment are reading and music. This decision implies not only an effort of physical survival, but also an emotional one: within his fragile body inhabit two opposing personalities that test this freedom.

A film in the past
On the other hand, Notas para una película is the latest production directed by Ignacio Agüero and co-produced by Tehani Staiger, Amalric de Pontcharra and Elisa Sepúlveda. The project participated in the Docs in Progress section of the festival, where it won the Asterisk* Marketing Award. The film, which portrays part of the life of Gustave Verniory, a Belgian engineer who at the end of the 19th century wrote the book ‘’10 años en la Araucanía’’ is not a historic film, but rather a documentary that explores the different forms of narration.
