Synopsis

Women in prison reconstruct their experience of motherhood through videos and photographs captured with their forbidden cell phones while serving their sentences. Malqueridas offers a reflection on the severity of motherhood when faced with confinement and the loss of affections.

  Filmmaker and Master in Documentary Film from the University of Chile. She participated at IDFA Academy 2019 and directed the short films: «Rest, Zulema» (2013) awarded at Femcine; «I’m still here» (2017) released at Hot Docs, participated in 25 international IFF (Best Short Film at Cine Las Americas, Jury Award at MiradasDoc); and «No star» (2022) which received a Special Mention from the jury at RIDM, Montreal International Documentary Festival. She is a professor of documentary film courses at universities in Chile. Her first feature film «Malqueridas» has been recognized in development instances such as Visions du Réel and Cannes Docs.

  Director and producer and of documentaries. Her recent productions include the co-production between Chile and Brazil, Haydee y el pez volador premiered in Hotdocs and awarded in DocsMx; the co-production between Canada and Chile, Cielo, selected at the prestigious New York Film Festival and Karlovy Vary; La Directiva, Best National Documentary FIDOCS 2017; and Allende mi Abuelo Allende, Best Documentary Feature at the Cannes Film Festival 2015. She has directed selected and awarded documentaries at different national and international festivals such as Genoveva, 74 m2 and La Última Huella.
