On the southern region of the earth, in the midst of a cruel and overwhelming geography, lives a handful of villagers. Men, women and children, together with their dogs and cattle, have to deal everyday with cold, isolation, wild animals and the snow.
South of Winter is Snow, a project from the Magallanes Region, observes the daily life of a group of peasants in Patagonia. The documentary, directed and produced by Sebastián Vidal, invites us to see how different beings cohabit with a distant and hostile territory such as the extreme south of Chile. It also shows the encounter and disagreement with the forces of nature and how does isolation and loneliness are lived in a place like this. The documentary takes as its starting point an old snowfall, known as the «White Earthquake», which caused havoc in the area. Today, it is the same lack of snow that makes life difficult in that place. “South of winter is snow” it is a journey that seeks to understand the relationship between the natural space and the intimacy of people, a way of locate oneself in the environment, allowing to contemplate it.
