During the first days after the 1973 coup d’état, the political leadership of the Popular Unity government was arrested and transferred to Dawson Island, Magallanes Region, extreme south of Chile and the mainland. The wives of the then political prisoners began an incessant effort to find out the whereabouts of their husbands and then try to return them alive. In these circumstances, they meet and spontaneously organize into what they call the group of the «Dawsonianas».
United in the desperate enterprise, using all their national and international contacts, they face personally the highest military commanders, including Pinochet, putting their lives and that of their families at risk. Their denunciations finally begin to have an echo, thus beginning the international political pressure that ends in the opening of detention centers to the Red Cross and the foreign press.
The journalist Angélica Beas, ex-wife of Carlos Jorquera, Salvador Allende’s press secretary also taken to Dawson Island, decides 45 years later to go in search of these testimonies and reunite the “Dawsonianas”.
The record includes the testimonies of Moy de Tohá, Isabel Morel, Irma de Almeyda, Lily Corbalán, María Elisa Cruz, Angélica Silva, Kenny Hirmas, Adriana Rondón, Lilla Ojalvo, María Mercedes Costa, Moira Lavanderos.
