In their first flight between the Atacama Desert and the Pacific Ocean, thousands of ringed storm petrels have fallen victim to light pollution from the city and other human activity sources. Marine ecologist Jorge Páez Godoy, part of the team dedicated to the rescue and conservation of this species, confronts the greatest mystery surrounding these birds: despite hundreds of specimens falling in the region every year, most nesting sites remain lost in the vastness of the desert.
