● Chile lands at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival CPH:DOX, which will showcase The Eternal Memory, the most recent film by Maite Alberdi, and My Imaginary Country, by Patricio Guzmán, as well as the world premiere of the short film The Departing Images, by Ana Edwards.
● Innovative Chilean projects from the production companies Tres Tercios (Asteroid 2518 and Zona de Ilustración) and Galgo Storytelling (Knowing your Nature and In the Shade of Light) are arriving at the CPH:DOX market.
From March 15 to 26, the documentary market CPH:DOX will be held in Denmark, in which Chile expects to shine with its delegation’s projects. The delegation is organized by Chiledoc, the agency for the promotion of the Chilean documentary in the world, and formed by Flor Rubina, deputy director of the organization; Ignacia Merino, producer of Tres Tercios; and María José Díaz, producer of Galgo Storytelling, audiovisual and virtual content production companies.
Characterized by seeking avant-garde projects, with sections focused on new languages and particular concern for the environment, this festival and its market are one of the most renowned in Europe. «This is the first time we are attending on-site since the last delegation attended online in 2021. We hope this first on-site encounter will help to explore the possibilities of new co-productions and motivates the cooperation between Latin America and Europe,» points out Flor Rubina, Chiledoc’s Deputy Director.
In terms of the characteristics and expectations of the Chilean Delegation, Flor explains that «both Galgo Storytelling as Tres Tercios are production company houses that are strongly addressing environmental and species and natural resources preservation themes, narrating stories through virtual reality and new cinematographic languages, which we are sure will make them very attractive in a space such as the CPH:DOX’s market, which editorial axes are very linked to those topics. In addition, we will have an encounter day with other producer delegations to explore co-production possibilities with countries such as France, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, and the UK, among others».
Feature films by two acclaimed
My Imaginary Country, directed by Patricio Guzman, produced by Renate Sasche, and co-produced in Chile by Alexandra Galvis, is the most recent film by one of the most outstanding Chilean director. The director returns to Chile to shoot the new political process that emerges after October of 2019, under his always profound personal interpretation. This film, which has already had an extraordinary journey through the most relevant worldwide festivals, will be exhibited in the Artists and Auteurs section.
On the other hand, Maite Alberdi will present one of her most exciting and moving works: The Eternal Memory, which will be exhibited in the Highlights section. This feature film has not gone unnoticed by the film industry and the public, as it arrives in Denmark after winning second place in the Audience Award in the Panorama section of the Berlinale and previously winning the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.
A world premiere
The short film The Departing Images, directed by Ana Edwards and produced by Le Fresnoy Studio National des Arts Contemporains, will have its world premiere in CPH:DOX. In this eleven-minute piece, we visit a Mapuche family living with their animals in a wooden house surrounded by mountains and trees. A man speaks of dreaming, of blurring the line between self and environment, while Edwards aligns a series of moments, moving freely between reality and reverie.

Chilean Delegation
Tres Tercios, the production company represented by Ignacia Merino, attends CPH:DOX with Asteroid 2518, a feature film in the editing stage, directed by Amanda Rutllant and produced by Ignacia Merino and Simón Vargas. In this film, Amanda, a millennial suffering from an autoimmune disease, traces the origins of her pain to her astrophysicist great-grandfather, Frederick.

The second project with which Tres Tercios attend is Ilustration Zone, directed by David Guzmán and Diego Breit and produced by Ignacia Merino, Pablo Arias, and Simón Vargas. This film, currently in development, links art and science such as Charles Darwin and Claudia Gay used illustration to reveal never-before-seen species to the world; today, a new generation of illustrators explores the same territories to recreate them on paper as threatened ecosystems.

On the other hand, the producer María José Díaz from Galgo Storytelling has in its portfolio the projects In the Shade of Light, in post-production, and Knowing your nature, in development. The first, directed by Ignacia Merino and Isabel Reyes and produced by María José Díaz and Francisca Barraza, portrays life in a rural town, where its inhabitants paradoxically coexist without access to electricity, with the energy network that feeds the rest of the country.
In The Shade of Light
Knowing your nature, directed by Francisca Silva and produced by María José Díaz and Antoine Crayol, is a virtual path of ten episodes, which places the user in the middle of the native forests of southern Chile. Each one invites you to train your mind with mindfulness exercises, appreciating the link between your internal states and the natural environment.
